Biography

Zeenath Kausar is born in Hyderabad, the capital city of Telangana state in South India. Her father, Late Maulana Maqbool Ahmed Jamie, born in Sialkot, Punjab (before partition of India), originally a Kashmiri Rajput, was a freedom fighter of India and a social activist who rendered many services to the country before and after independence.   Her mother, Aiesha Begum was a family –devoted lady from Calicut, Kerala. Kausar has completed her M. Phil in 1986 and Ph. D in 1991 from Aligarh Muslim University, AMU, Aligarh. She is residing in Malaysia with her husband and children since 1987 on contract basis.  Her husband Prof. Dr. M. Mumtaz Ali is a professor at the International Islamic University, Malaysia, IIUM, and is a winner of two National Awards for his books on epistemology. They have three children, Mohammad Abdul Allam Roase, Muznah Madeeha and Humnah Madeeha.  Zeenath has taught at the International Islamic University Malaysia, IIUM in the Department of Political Science from 1990 to 2006 and later taught at Qatar University, QU in the Department of International Affairs from 2007-2009. Her areas of interest and specialisation include Islamic and Western political thought, feminism and its Islamic critique, modernisation and development studies, globalisation, and few others. She has authored several books and published several articles in refereed journals on Western and Islamic political thought and women studies and most of her books and articles are cited by scholars and researchers in the concerned fields. Some of her books include Democratisation and the Contemporary Islamic Resurgence; Colonisation to Globalisation: Might is Right Continues; Women’s Empowerment in Islam: UN Beijing Document Platform for Action; Muslim Women at the Crossroads and many others. She has received two Awards as ‘Excellent Researcher Award’ and ‘Quality Research Award’ based on her research and publications from the University, IIUM. Presently she is fully occupied in two important works: (1) Publication of articles and books; and (2) Holding Initiative discussions for establishing an international Islamic think-tank for women studies.
